Jack Hadley and
Doug Yoshimura

Saturday morning, March 26th, Jack Hadley and Doug Yoshimura put on a tour de force of acoustic Blues from 10am to 1pm at The Edgewater Coffee Company…a great, extremely music-friendly coffee place nestled next to Sloan’s Lake. This performance was a benefit for Japan and thanks to Gina Hartley, Jack and Doug, a good amount of money (over a grand), was raised to help ease the pain that Japan’s population is experiencing from the tsunami and nuclear traumas. Playing to a consistently packed, enthusiastic and generous audience, Jack and Doug (both leaders of their own bands), performed a full array of wonderful acoustic Blues….the kind I truly love. It was a great mixture of stuff, “Before You Accuse Me,” “Kokomo Me Baby, Kokomo Me Right and Kokomo your Mama…..” original songs by Jack, very tasteful and articulate slide playing by Doug. I’m not sure if they are going to make a “thing” out of doing this together again, but I for one will be encouraging them to do it. While they are well-worth seeing with their own groups and bands, they are really fun as this acoustic duo.

If you don’t know about the Edgewater Coffee Company (and I didn’t), it’s a place to get to know. They have several open-mic’s throughout the month and a great central stage area. They feature many of the town’s best performers with an active agenda of wonderful musical events (www.edgewatercoffee.com). The coffee is great, the food is good, the location is really fun, so get on down there and check it out soon.
